Bid out for repairs on Ballito and Salt Rock traffic lights

Either flashing red, or black as pitch, traffic lights will remain ineffective until a successful bidder has been announced and repairs completed.

Ballito and Salt Rock motorists have been enduring regular traffic jams as they are forced to navigate faulty traffic lights, which have seen numerous close calls and a few accidents.

KwaDukuza municipality advertised last week for quotations for repair of the lights, which will remain flashing red or off until a successful bidder is chosen.

According to ward 21 councillor, Tommy du Toit, nobody knew what caused the traffic lights at intersections along Ballito Drive to fail.traffic lights Ballito

Preference will be given to micro enterprises and/or qualifying small enterprises with a minimum 51% black ownership status.

The deadline for bids is October 30.

Salt Rock ward councillor, Privi Makhan said she had reported faulty traffic lights on the southern and western ramps of the N2 overpass at Salt Rock.

She blamed recent work by fibre-installation companies for the failures.
