Images of Africa

Hyperrealist artist Holly Kavonic is holding a special exhibition for her local fans.

Hyperrealist artist Holly Kavonic is visiting South Africa this month and will be holding a special exhibition for her local fans.

The launch of ‘Images of Africa’ exhibition will be held at the Artisan Gallery, on 334 Florida Road, Morningside, Durban on Friday, September 20, 5.30pm to 8.30pm. The exhibition will then run for 10 days.

Twenty-eight-year-old Holly grew up in Ballito and attended Danville Park Girls’ High. After high school she began traveling the world. It was during one of these adventures that she met her now husband, Ben Hutchinson, and settled with him in California.

Holly began painting full time in 2009 when Ballito art patron Louis Bruwer discovered her. Able to see her potential as an artist, he commissioned her to do a number of paintings over a year.

The majority of her early paintings portrayed the richness of African cultures. America’s fascination with African culture has worked in her favour and she discovered a niche for her work.

This year she is launching a series of wildlife paintings and hopes to bring more attention to some of the at-risk or endangered animals of North America and South Africa. For more information go to her website: www.hollykavonic.com
