Courier reader alerted to scam artists

Ballito residents have been approached by scammers.

After Eskom’s warning about the ‘energy audit’ scam, Ballito residents have confirmed they have been receiving phone calls from the scam artists.

Salt Rock resident Ron Warwick received a call from a man posing as an Eskom employee and made an appointment for them to visit his house last Thursday.

After reading about the scam on the Courier website Warwick realised he had been contacted by the very same criminals.

Although they did not pitch for the appointment, he said that they had been were very interested in specific details about his home.

In a press release last week Eskom made it clear that it is not doing residential audits anywhere in the country and “will never phone a home owner to access their home for an audit” .

Should anyone approach or call you to make an appointment for an “Eskom sanctioned energy audit”, report the incident to the police.

The company are urging the public to “not let anyone with such claims into your home for any reason”.
