Simon Povey, owner of local store Hobbies KZN, has started a club for radio control enthusiasts in the area.
In line with this initiative, he is building a 4×4 RC Rock Crawler track, a 1/8 scale dirt track and a six by 75 meter runway for radio controlled aeroplanes.
“I’ve been fascinated with radio controlled models since the age of five when my father used to take me to the local RC field,” said Povey.
The Ballito RC Club officially started last Wednesday and aims to bring lovers of the hobby together.
“It is really a family orientated thing. These days you do not get much real father-son time. This is a way to do that,” said Povey.
The tracks are being built with the help of local volunteers Ken Mann, Owen Philpott, Rob Moore, Steve Long, James Westoby, Andre Thomé and Theru Reddy as well as Fred Stark, the club’s instructor, pilot and judge. Povey aims to have the crawler track and the runway done by the end of this week.
