Taxi violence flares

Two men were shot dead on the R102 this morning.

North Coast residents are bracing themselves in the wake of a shooting this morning, allegedly between two rival taxi associations.

Two men were shot dead on the R102, near the Umfolozi FET Chief Albert Luthuli Campus around 7.45am.

A police source confirmed the men were members of the KwaDukuza Taxi Association.

The R102 has since been closed from the N2 turn off while police assess the crime scene.

But KwaDukuza SAPS communications officer constable S’busiso Khumalo said there is no need to panic.

“The situation is under control and we ask everyone to remain calm. KwaDukuza and provincial SAPS officers will be deployed to watch the taxi routes. For now, we recommend avoiding the R102 to prevent delays.”
