Police arrest man for Stanger shooting
A 24-year-old man was arrested yesterday for his role in the Monday's shooting at the Stanger taxi rank.
Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the shooting at the Stanger taxi rank on Monday.
The shooting followed the appearance of three men allegedly involved in the murder of Groutville taxi owner Dennis Mhlongo (48) and his driver Khulekani Mdletshe (25).
Mhlongo and Mdletshe were shot dead near the Umfolozi FET Chief Albert Luthuli Campus on Thursday last week.
Justice Mthethwa (50), Mbhekiseni Luthuli (27) from Groutville and Mthunzi Mathenjwa (29) appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Monday and will re-appear tomorrow on two counts of murder, three of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Provincial SAPS spokesman captain Thulani Zwane confirmed the latest arrest took place at the KwaDukuza Taxi rank yesterday.
“It is alleged that on Monday at about 12:13pm the suspect went to KwaDukuza Taxi Rank and opened fire, fortunately no one was injured. He then went straight to the victim (38) and fired two shots in his direction and fled the scene. The victim managed to escape unharmed.”
School pupils and other commuters were forced to run into nearby shops to avoid being harmed.
The 24-year-old will also appear in court tomorrow.
