Petrol price to drop

Good news for motorists as the Rand slowly recovers and Brent crude oil prices drop.

Motorists may breathe another sigh of relief as petrol prices will see another price cut on Friday.

The Energy Department is set to announce its monthly adjustment at the end of the week.

As the rand slowly recovers and Brent crude oil prices drop, we could likely see an estimated drop of at least 20 cents per litre.

The price of 95 octane petrol has dropped from R13.18 since August 7 to R12.93 on October 2. The drop in the fuel price is mainly due to a strengthening rand as well as the slide in the price of Brent crude oil.

Prospects for a continued easing of international oil prices are looking up if the demand and exports for oil remain at the current levels. Lower demand and overproduction have seen a stockpiling of US oil inventories.

Another factor which could lead to further respite for fuel prices is negotiations between the US and Iran which could see an end to export sanctions against the Middle-Eastern nation.
