A pumping lifeline

Donate blood and save lives.

While petrol attendants filled up cars with petrol, people gave blood at Sasol Salt Rock on Friday.
The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) usually collects blood at the Ballito Library, but Sasol’s forecourt manager Praveena Thulkanum organised to have a special collection service at the station.
“It is an effort of ours to raise awareness of blood shortages, especially with the high number of accidents over the festive season,” said Thulkanum.
The busy petrol station has a high volume of traffic, which was another reason Thulkanum wished to host the clinic at the station.
Leading by example, the station’s manager was the first person to donate blood in the SANBS blood clinic van.
The SANBS holds blood clinics every second Tuesday of the month at the Ballito Library from 10 am to 6pm.
