Christmas through a child’s eyes

The Courier spoke to local kids on how they saw Christmas.

It is unanimous, Christmas is about Jesus’ birthday and all the celebrations that come with this special day.

According to local kids who spoke to the Courier about what they liked about Christmas, seeing family, receiving presents and eating lots and lots of food where at the top of the list.

Groutville’s Tusimenzi Khumalo (7) said Christmas was like “the best party with nice decorations and presents for everyone.”

Brothers Joshua (7) and Danny (6) Lebenon said Christmas was Jesus birthday but admitted to be the ones who received presents even though it was not their birthday.

“We celebrate Jesus’ birthday by having sweets, have lots of food and everyone gets a presents on his birthday,” said Danny.

“It is better than a birthday party because everyone gets a present at the same time and we have lots of food because at our house and go to my cousins to do the same,” said Tusimenzi.

Crawford Prep’s Thomas Pearson (5) said the best thing about Christmas was Santa who visit both his school and home to bring him and his brother Jake presents.

Mpumalanga’s Ruben Voster (6) who spending his holidays in Ballito said he was looking forward to having his friends come over for Christmas.

“It is nice when my friends and other people come over. We also have lots of food that never gets finished,” said Ruben.

Shayamoya’s Cebo Gumede (13) and Mthokozisi Mbatha (11) said the best part about Christmas was getting new clothes and having relatives come over for a visit.

“Some of my cousins who live far only visit on Christmas and it is nice because there is no school so we hang together, sleep late and play non stop,” said Mthokozisi.

KwaDukuza Primary’s Ageel Muhammad (10) echoed Mthokozisi sentiments and it was nice when his “big family get together on Christmas to share a big meal with every kind of food”.
