Zamani township protests against taxi security

R102 closed by protesters.

Residents of Zamani Township, in Darnall are protesting and have closed the R102 from Stanger to Mpangeni.

Reports indicate that a tree has been used to block the road.

KwaDukuza SAPS communication officer Sbusiso Khumalo said the residents are accusing the Stanger taxi association security guards off abusing them.

Ward two councillor Ntsiki Pakkief said the protesters claimed that the security guards regularly forced them off buses, insisting that they use taxis instead.

“They want me to remove the security guards and I do not know how I am going to do that because I do not have power to do that,” said Pakkief.

He said residents are threatening not to vote.
