Ilembe district municipal manager Muzi Madlala has passed away.
Soft-spoken Madlala, who was appointed as Mike Newton’s successor mid-2013, died this morning.
An Ilembe district councillor confirmed that officials and councillors were sent text messages this afternoon, saying a visit to Madlala’s family had been arranged for tomorrow.
It is not clear how Madlala, who was described as quiet and reserved, died.
Madlala was previously the manager of the Mpofana municipality.
Ilembe district communications manager Zee Nqala confirmed Madlala’s death and said an official statement would be released by the end of the day.
