Contractor damages Salt Rock’s main power cable

Two major power cable faults today.

Power in the Sheffield and Salt Rock areas should be restored within the next two hours.

This is according to KwaDukuza municipality technical services electrical engineer, Nick Hall.

Sheffield and Salt Rock have been without power since about 8am this morning due to damage to the area’s main feeder cable for the Salt Rock sub station.

“The cable was damaged by a contractor. We have been working all day to restore power,” said Hall.

Hall explained that they had been able to restore the damage earlier this afternoon, but when they turned the power back on another fault occurred.

They are now busy working on the second fault.
