Bullets fly on the N2

Driver's family traumatised after being shot at

A Bedfordview resident and his family are traumatised after being shot at on the N2 south, between Salt Rock and Shakashead on Saturday afternoon.

Adrian Alexander and his girlfriend were visiting their holiday home in Ballito and decided to take his six-year-old niece shopping in Ballito around 12 noon. He was driving his white Toyota Etios sedan.

“I moved into the fast lane to overtake a few cars. When I looked in my rear view mirror a black Range Rover with ND plates was coming up behind me at a frightening speed.”

Alexander said he moved over into the left lane and the Range Rover pulled up alongside him.

“I looked over and saw a black man pointing a handgun at us. I slammed down my brakes and he did the same, firing a shot that hit my car bonnet.”

Alexander headed for the Shakashead off ramp but the man kept shooting at him.

“We were very lucky that we were not harmed, but we are very traumatised. My niece was terrified.”

Alexander said he did not know why anyone would want to kill him but ventured that it may have been a case of road rage.

A case of attempted murder has been opened at the Umhlali SAPS.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to call the station on 032-947 9900.
