The sweetest way to save a life

Become a Cupcake Angel this National Cupcake Day helping Cupcakes of Hope to make a big difference.

With September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Cupcakes of Hope’s main fundraising event National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer is back again on September 27 at The Lifestyle Shopping Centre and they need your help and support.

The most devastating words a parent can ever hear are “your child has cancer”. Many parents and children face this reality on a daily basis and are in need of support. For this reason, Sandy Cipriano founded Cupcakes of Hope.

Cupcakes of Hope, a non-profit company, is a community driven project which raises funds for children with cancer. They do this through their love of baking cupcakes.

Not only does the organisation offer support, but it also creates awareness around childhood cancer.

“Knowing the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer is invaluable for early detection of cancer in children. Knowing what to look for, can save a child’s life,” said Cipriano

They are looking for volunteers to help out on the day at Lifestyle Shopping centre from 8am to 2.30pm. They need of a photographer and helpers to assistant with the setting up of tables, handing out leaflets and posters as well as cupcake controllers.

Cupcake Angels are needed to bake and donate cupcakes for the cause with the focus this year being on quality not quantity. Please go to the website for information on flavours and quantities needed.

There will also be a few celebs doing a cupcake decorating competition as well as a kids’ decorating workshop.

Schools and companies can also get involved by hosting their own Party of Hope. You can register on the website and receive a free Angel Party Pack which includes leaflets that contain the early warning signs of childhood cancer, badges and branded baking cups.

The money raised so far has helped over 250 patients by paying for their medical or day-to-day living expenses. Cupcakes of Hope has also donated to 15 other charities and causes.

“It is amazing to see how a little cupcake can make such a huge difference in people’s lives. One of our biggest donations this year was to 10-year-old Graeme from Bloemfontein. He needed a portable oxygen machine and we were able to donate this machine to the value of R44 000. This will definitely improve his quality of life because it will reduce the stress on his little heart,” said Cipriano.
