Integrated health practitioner, Hennie Palm, was the guest speaker at the Hirsch Ballito networking breakfast on August 27.
He gave a thought provoking and inspiring talk on age management and the importance of keeping thoroughly fit to help slow down the ageing process.
“Health cannot be equated with the absence of the symptoms of disease. This is the mistake that is often made in modern medicine and why many treatments are focused upon symptom reduction in a “silver bullet approach”,” said Palm.
Health is equated with vitality, meaning, energy, movement, enriching personal relationships, longevity and a feeling of well-being.
“This cannot be achieved by swallowing a tablet”, he said.
Palm said it can only be achieved by creating balance within our bodies, a healthy wholesome diet and lifestyle, replacement of many nutrients and hormones that decline with age, regular moderate exercise, good quality sleep and the cultivation of a positive and realistic mindset.
“People do not have to accept poor health both mental and physical. Age related decline can be slowed, or even reversed. Integrated or functional medicine has taken up the challenge that other health professionals may have given up on with their patients. It is a refreshingly different health science and gets to the core of issues that may be causing distress.”
A lively discussion followed the talk, and with the onset of spring, it was clear that the audience were raring to go and take up the challenge of a better balanced lifestyle.
