Video: Ballito snake handler to the rescue

Who you gonna call?

North Coast Courier sales rep and Ballito snake catcher David Houhler was called out to a farmhouse near Collisheen in Upper Tongaat yesterday to rescue the residents from a snake.

It turned out to be an extreamly large, but harmless Western Natal Green Snake, otherwise known as a bush snake. The gravid female was carrying eggs.

Houhler removed the snake and released it safely into a more suitable new home.

The Western Natal Green Snake is often confused with the Boomslang and Green Mamba. This snake feeds mainly on frogs and geckos. The adults can reach up to 1.3 meters.

All snake encounters should be reported to Neville Wolmarans, snake catcher and owner of Ndlondlo Reptile Park, who is gathering of information to calculate snake encounter statistics on the Dolphin Coast.

Report it on the Facebook page called ‘Dolphin Coast Snake Stats’ or via SMS or Whatsapp to Neville on 082 561 4969 or Helen on 079 453 3557.
