R10 000 for the Orphan Fund!

Ashton International pupils have hearts of gold.

Pupils from Ashton International College were decked out to the nines last Friday night for the Debutante and Squires Ball hosted at Braeside.

The squires were looking very dapper in their smart suits and the ladies went all out in elegant dresses, covered in ruffles and jewels.

The ‘Heart of Gold’ awards evening marked the end of the Debutante and Squires Programme which kicked off at the beginning of the year involving pupils from forms two, three and four.

The young Ashton ambassadors were recognised and congratulated for their hard work and fundraising achievements.

This year’s group broke the previous year’s record of R73 000, raising an impressive R126 000 for charities identified by the debutantes and squires.

The programme has raised R314 000 since 2010.

Money was raised through hosted shows, a civvies day, market day, a ladies high tea, raffles and various other events.

This year history was made when the overall winner was a squire – Benjamin Habig who raised a whopping R28 540.

Second place went to Anika Botha with R24 183 and third place went to Rosalita de Agrela, raising R17 070.

On the night R10 000 a piece was handed over to St Lukes’ Home of Healing, Tuinsig Old Aged Home, North Coast Courier Orphan Fund, CHOC and Autism SA. LIV recieved R15 000 and Greytown Childrens’ Home R17 000. The remainder of the funds will be distributed to various organisations that have applied to the Debutantes Fund.

“We believe these youngsters have over the past five years made a considerable impact on the lives of others and made a huge difference”, said Ashton executive head Joe Erasmus.
