Vigilantes burn man to death in Ntshawini

The man was accused of robbing a foreigner and cuting his fingers off.

A Ntshawini man was burnt to death in zone five on Monday night.

The man was accused of belonging to a criminal gang plaguing the area. The gang is said to operate from the road that goes to Gledow Sugar Mill from the R102 up until KwaMbambo.

According to a source, who did not wish to be named for fear of retribution, the gang had robbed a foreigner in eZihlabathini and cut his fingers off.

This had engaged the community and a group of vigilantes rounded on the alleged gang. Apparently all but one man escaped.

Ward 15 Councillor Nevas Hlatshawayo said he had only just heard about the crime.

“I saw the ashes on the road and they told me a criminal was burnt to death,” said Hlatshwayo.

KwaDukuza SAPS communications officer constable Sbusiso Khumalo confirmed the incident and said the police are still investigating.

“We urge residents not to take law into their hands but report criminals to the police,” said Khumalo.
