New exam venues for iLembe not wanted

The Education department is unfazed.

The adult basic education training teachers and pupils of iLembe district were protesting at the Sadtu park in Stanger on Friday morning.

They are unhappy with the new examinations venues that are provided by the education department.

“We used to write our exams at the same centres we attend classes at but now the education department wants us to go to a certain centres and write there,” said Ezindlovini centre manager, Kenneth Maphumulo.

Some of the assigned examination venues are far from the pupil’s homes and they say they are unable to afford the additional cost of travelling.

They were threatening to not write the exams if the department does not comply.

Education department Muzi Mahlabi said they should go and write they exams and the matter will be discussed after the exams.

“Those who are serious about thier education will write the exams unless they are not interested in writing at all,” said Mahlabi.

According to Mahlabi the reason for the new exam centres is because in June some of the students where caught cheating.

The exams were scheduled to start on Tuesday November 4 and according to one of the teachers the students did arrive for their exams.
