From dirty water to no water.
On Thursday, November 13, a concerned Darnall resident sent the Courier pictures of the grim looking water which flowed from the taps that morning.
The following day, Darnall had no water, which continued until Monday, November 17, when it was finally turned on again at 11am and was clear and hopefully clean.
“A number of concerned parents at Darnall Primary School have tried to find out why we do not have water, but we are told a different story every time” said Darnall Primary school secretary, Sue Stone.
“I have been buying my own water for a long time, because of the constant water problems in Darnall. It is an expensive exercise and an unnecessary one at that”, she said.
Many locals share Stone’s frustration, yet it seems there is no solution.
An anonymous source stated that Umgeni Water was working on the water purification plant, which allegedly caused the water supply interruptions. However Umgeni Water denied this.
“Umgeni Water does not supply water to Darnall and therefore we are not working on the purification system”, said Umgeni Water’s Corporate Stakeholder Manager, Shami Harichunder.
We are awaiting a statement from Ilembe municipality’s media liaison to shed some light on the matter.
