Eskom warned consumers on Thursday that the power supply is expected to be constrained on Friday and over the weekend.
The national power utility said its system remains tight all day in summer due to the flat load profile, industrial load and the impact of air conditioning during the day.
Eskom said the power system will remain constrained until a substantial number of units from the build programme comes online.
Load shedding will be implemented to protect the power system from total collapse.
Spokesperson Andrew Etzinger said they are concerned about the weekend and warned of a possible shortfall, but will keep the public up to date.
They called on customers in the summer months to live lightly by reducing the demand from 6am to 10pm to manage the all day “Table Mountain” profile.
To help save power during the day, set air conditioning to 23ºC, close windows and doors to optimise air conditioning and switch off 30 minutes before leaving the room.
Switch off all geysers, all non-essential lighting and respond to Power Alert messages by switching off all appliances that are not being used.
If load shedding is implemented over the weekend, take a look at the load shedding schedules for the Ballito area here as supplied by Eskom.
