The Salt Rock Homework Club
Fun solution to the struggle of getting kids to do homework.
Jessica Galloway loves nothing better than seeing children enjoying what most school pupils dread… homework.
Galloway has started a novel new group at her Salt Rock home to help children conquer the battle to complete the daily homework chore.
“Homework should not be a stressful time, and I have found that children are much more focused in a structured environment.”
The Salt Rock Homework Club was born from Galloway’s desire to give working parents quality time with their children.
“I run an Au pair placement company but many people cannot afford this service. Still when parents get home after work it can be challenging to juggle making dinner, quality time and homework.”
A mother herself, Galloway has been tutoring for many years and before that worked as a pre-school teacher, so she is well equipped to help when assignments get challenging.
The club is open to primary school going children and offers a pick up service from Umhlali Prep and Curro and drop-offs at homes within Salt Rock. The club opens at 12pm, with the last pick-up being at 3.30pm.
Pupils spend a hour in her care as Galloway believes that is a reasonable time for homework at primary level.
“After a long school day, there must still be time for play, rest and family time.”
