Red Frogs to the rescue

Matrics and parents can rely on Red Frogs for support and assistance.

Parents can breathe a sigh of relief when they send their kids to Rage this year with the Red Frogs ready to look after the hundreds of matrics and provide support where needed.

The Red Frogs are a group of volunteers who are prepared to safeguard this year’s rage-goers and parents can even call the Red Frogs and ask them to check up on their children.

“Part of being a positive presence is being readily available for Matrics, therefore all the Matrics are encouraged to save the Red Frogs 24/7 contact number which is 060 733 3764,” said Pippa Rowney, the spokesperson for the Red Frogs.

The volunteers will be arriving at Grace Church in Umhlanga today for their briefing and tonight they will be roaming the streets to make sure everyone is safe and having a good time.

“During the day the team makes pancakes for the Matrics and at night they work in shifts to walk the kids home, keeping an eye out for any situations that may need urgent attention,” said Rowney.

Matrics can call the Red Frogs in any situation if they are feeling unsafe, need someone to talk to or would just like the team to come and make them some pancakes.

“Thanks to ABI we have 2000 bottles of water so we’ll be able to increase awareness around dehydration and hand out free bottles of water on the streets and outside clubs. Our call centre volunteers are ready for the influx of calls, mainly relating to pancake bookings,” said Rowney.

McCarthy Toyota in Durban North provided the crew with wheels to get to all the pancake bookings.

They are expecting to make over 100 000 pancakes at this year’s Matric Rage.

“We’ll have our pancake trailer out on the streets at night so Matrics can come by and grab something to eat before they go out.”

The Red Frogs will have a chill out and hydration station at the Sound Factory at Kings Park, Durban and anyone who needs water, or just needs to take some time out is invited to stop at the tent.

Rowney said Cartoon Candy delivered another tonne of Red Frog Sweets for the team.

“These sweets are such a great way of starting a conversation and can even build friendships.”
