Eskom implements rolling blackouts

Expect lights out over the weekend.

Eskom announced that stage 2 load shedding has been implemented and will continue over the weekend.

The national power utility started with rolling blackouts countrywide from 4pm today and will go on till 10pm tonight.

“The power system is exceptionally constrained today due to unforeseen technical problems at power stations, depleted water reserves and logistical issues relating to diesel supplies at our peaking power stations,” said Eskom’s spokesperson Andrew Etzinger.

He said the power system will remain under pressure tomorrow and the risk of load shedding remains high.

“Eskom has also taken a decision to load shed over the weekend in order to build up reserves for the week ahead.”
