Four traffic lanes for Christmas

The future for Ballito's traffic maze is looking a bit brighter.

“We are on track with the road works and four lanes will be open by Friday,” said road contractor David Duke.

Drivers have had to face a traffic nightmare for the past few months, as traffic has gridlocked on the M4 and P445 entrance road into Ballito.

Locals, especially business owners, have been in a panic at the thought of the tourist influx from mid-December and what that would do to the already gridlocked road.

After pressure from ratepayers, councillors and the municipality, the road works have made fantastic progress over the last two weeks and drivers were smiling at the sight of asphalt being laid on the new road.

“The road layout works have been completed and the asphalt is nearly done as well. Road markings will be going on this week,” said Duke.

This means, if all goes as planned, the four lanes will be open and ready to be used by Friday this week.

The final surfacing, sidewalks and street lights will be done in January and the road should be 100% complete by February.

Hold thumbs that smooth driving will soon be normal again in Ballito.
