Citizens of Stanger are complaining that Stanger Home Affairs has no public toilet nor any access for the disabled.
KwaDukuza resident Lazarius Samual said that the building is in the wrong place.
“There is no designated parking and a place like home affairs should be accessible to everyone,” said Samual.
Home Affairs is in Hulett street on the second floor of I Global house. From the ground floor, to gain entry, you need to walk up more than twenty steps making it difficult for elderly people like Radha Kistan from Stanger.
“Their service is good,” said Kistan, giving credit where credit is due, “but something should be done about a public toilet and making the offices accessible to everyone”.
One of the employees at home affairs said that sometimes they tell disabled residents to go to Tongaat home affairs.
“One day, a granny needed a toilet urgently and by the time we got her to our staff toilets, it was too late,” said the employee.
Some residents suggest that since Bears furniture shop that was on the first floor is now closed, home affairs should be moved there.
Home Affairs provincial manager Nosipho Shandu said she is aware of the issues and they are addressing them.
” If we need to relocate the offices we will send our property team to check if the premises meet our needs,” said Shandu.
