Four lanes open on Ballito Drive

Pothole fixing jams traffic.

The Ballito traffic nightmare before Christmas may be over.

As promised, four lanes have been opened to traffic on the P445 today.

This morning Ballito experienced free flowing traffic for the first time in months.

At the same time pot hole filling on Dolphin Crescent and Ocean Drive started today, raising residents’ blood pressure over more traffic jams.

It is believed that the KwaDukuza municipality (KDM) waited for the four lanes to be opened on the P445 before digging up the only alternative road between Sheffield Beach and Ballito.

Workers on site said they will finish filling the potholes they are busy with today.

KDM could not be reached for comment but the community and holiday makers probably need not worry about road works on Compensation Beach Road after the commencement of the builders holiday today. “It is reasonable to believe that the contractors filling the potholes will go on builders holiday and leave the rest of the filling for the new year,” said Ballito counselor Colin Marsh.
