“Thumbs up for new ANC leadership”
Newly elected ANC receives support from trade union.
The Congress of the South African Trade Unions (COSATU) have announced their support for the newly elected African National Congress KwaDukuza region.
The ANC elected new leadership with KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu as chairman of the region at the three-day conference that began on Monday at the Breaside.
“We support the new leadership of the ANC and we hope for a working relationship that will set out to solve all workers problems,” said KwaDukuza COSATU secretary Sbusiso Mhlongo.
On December 8, COSATU called for change in the ANC leadership, accusing it of being weak.
At the conference the newly elected chairperson Mthembu said that they will work hard to ensure that there is unity in the party after the conference so that they can be able tackle all challenges that face the region.
“Our main task is to ensure that the people of this region have jobs, and that cannot be achieved if we do not promote economic development,” said Mthembu.
He said that they have to revive the economy in all towns and will engage various stakeholders to achieve that goal.
The conference was attended by 361 delegates. Maxwell Chili was elected as deputy chairperson, Thabani Mdlalose as regional secretary, Zibuyile Khuzwayo as deputy secretary and Thulani Ntuli as treasurer.
