Eight people, including the driver, were taken to hospital after a taxi accident in Ballito this morning.
“The driver lost control of the taxi when the brakes failed about 150 metres before Stella Road going downhill on Ballito Drive,” said taxi owner Leonard Nyosana.
The frightened taxi driver swerved to the left, hit the curb hard and narrowly missed a tree before smashing into a brick wall.
The accident happened just after 7 am and Netcare 911 and IPSS Medical Rescue transported the injured to nearby hospitals.
“Two of the eight passengers were seriously injured and the rest are recovering from minor injuries,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.
The accident caused minor damage to the wall that prevented it from careering down a steep bank and into a swimming pool situated below.
