Lifeguards assist paddle skier at Tinley Manor
Lifeguards retrieve ski, paddler was in no danger.
Lifeguards at Tinley Manor beach assisted with the retrieval of a paddle skier’s craft yesterday morning, and did not have to save the man from rip currents as previously reported.
It was initially reported that the paddler got into difficulty when he was knocked off by a wave.
KwaDukuza lifeguard supervisor Bongani Xulu said he spoke to his senior lifeguards at Tinley Manor about the incident and that this was not the case.
“The paddler was coming back in when his ski flipped in the shore break. The man safely swam out to the beach, but his ski got caught in the rip and the craft was going back out to sea,” said Xulu.
He said his lifeguards went down to see what happened and the man was worried about his ski, so the lifeguards jumped in and retrieved the craft.
“The man was fine and they returned his ski. When they went back up to the tower, they saw Netcare911 was called out. However the paddler was in a good condition and not in need of any medical help,” said Xulu.
