Hospital asks patients to not accumulate meds

Extra medicine needs to be discarded by pharmacy.

Stanger Hospital request that all patients collecting medication at the hospital and surrounding clinics to please tell the doctor, pharmacist, pharmacist assistant or nurse issuing the medication to them, if they have extra medication at home.

You can bring your medication with you at each visit to your health care workers so they can check what you have and issue you with what you need.

The hospital is warning against accumulating extra medication at home and then bringing it in months later to the pharmacy.

The hospital will have to discard it according to the Pharmacy Law (Pharmacy act 101 of 1953) as they are not allowed to re-use any medication returned by patients.

If you are a clinic patient collecting medication every month and you have any queries or you have missed your clinic date, you can report to the pharmacy (hatch 3) between 11am and 12pm or 3pm and 3.30pm.

If you are unable to go to the clinic yourself a family member or friend can fetch the medication for you. Please send your blue or white clinic card so the staff can correctly identify your medication.

For any queries contact the pharmacy manager Sushila Reddy on 032-4376090.
