Vigilantes murder man in Thembeni

Man accused of stealing assaulted by community.

KwaDukuza SAPS are investigating a case of murder after a 35-years-old Mbongeni Mzobe was assaulted by Thembeni residents on Saturday.

According to KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker, residents were accusing the man of stealing.

Mzobe was taken to Stanger Hospital were he died.

KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson Johannes Khoza said it is not clear what Mzobe was accused of stealing, if he was in fact guilty.

“No one has come forward to tell us that he stole from him or her and according to our records there was no case open against him before and he was not on our wanted list,” said Khoza.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, lieutenant general Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the killing of Mzobe.

“We want to once again discourage people from taking the law into their own hands and caution that those found to be breaking the law will be prosecuted. We urge members of the community to work together with the police by providing information with regards to the suspects involved in this murder so that they can be arrested,” said Mmamonnye.
