Finding your one and only is not easy, but Matthew and Jenny Chapman did it and 60 years later, they still only have eyes for each other.
The sweet couple recently returned to their home in Ballito, after spending a week away on a surprise diamond anniversary holiday.
“Our daughters, Diana and Lesley, organised the holiday for us at Kiara Lodge in the Berg and even booked a special dinner at the lodge’s restaurant on the night of our anniversary,” said Jenny.
They visited the quaint arty town, Clarence and thoroughly enjoyed walking around the town and seeing all the little shops.
The romantic adventurers also went on a tour to the Maluti Caves and enjoyed the scenic mountains surrounding the caves.
During their trip they remembered all the fun they have had and how it all began.
“We met in Kensington, Gauteng and after only six months we were ready to seal the deal,” she said.
“We were in such a hurry to get married, that I got a special licence so that we could get married in court,” he said.
During their honeymoon at the Rivonia Hotel, Vaal Dam, the 18 year old Jenny got terribly homesick.
“She just wanted to go home, but I explained to her that I was her new home and then she was happy to stay.”
And she stayed forever, despite everyone telling them that they were making a mistake and their marriage would never work.
“We do everything together and we love every moment of it and through it all we have respected and trusted each other at all times,” said Jenny.
“We mean to be together always. He wants to be 100 years old, so I guess I will also have to make it to 100 then.”
