Blessing pupils with peace

Rotary Club of Zimbali and Ashton's Interact group invests in school.

For children at RA Padayachee school in Shaka’s Head, there is a dedicated corner where anyone can enjoy some peace.

We can all agree that sometimes you just need to step out to somewhere pretty and out of the ordinary for some renewed energy, and that is exactly what the Rotary Club of Zimbali wanted to do.

“There is such a big need at the school and so we thought we wanted to create a peace garden for them where they can just sit down and relax,” said Rotary Zimbali’s Heidie Smith.

Smith said when the Interact group at Ashton International College heard about the project, they jumped in to help. “Ashton’s Interactors hosted a fund raising event in aid of the project and Rotary Zimbali matched that amount.”

The Interactors helped to make the peace garden pretty and has also been fixing up the school’s jungle gym and spending time with the pupils.

“The pupils really enjoy this space, because it is something different,” said Smith.

Children wrote special messages on the stones surrounding the centre piece and the benches face a beautiful, blue mural with peace splashed on the wall and a dove keeping an eye over everyone.
