Ballito Pro champion crowned

Exciting finish in front of a packed crowd on the beach.

The fast and loose Brazillian surfer Alejo Muniz was crowned the Ballito Pro presented by Billabong champion for 2015 on Sunday afternoon in front of a packed Surfer’s Beach in Ballito.

Muniz dominated the final against Australian Davey Cathels who was in a combination situation towards the end of the 40 minute heat.

“It really felt like the swell we have all been waiting for finally arrived today and I am just really glad I got to surf the big waves,” said an ecstatic Muniz.

“I’m really happy to win here. I love Ballito and I will definitely be coming back every year.”

The win pushed Muniz to the top of the World Surf League’s World Qualifying Series (WQS) and cements his hope to requalify for the Championship Tour.

Muniz walked away with 10 000 points for the WQS rankings and almost half a million Rand in prize money.
