Ballito accident claims Uthungulu deputy mayor’s life
Car rolled several times ejecting all three occupants.
The deputy mayor of the Uthungulu District Municipality in Richards Bay, Thulani Mashaba died in a car accident on Thursday evening in Ballito.
IPSS Medical Rescue reported that a BMW X5 was travelling from King Shaka Airport on the N2 North when the vehicle lost control and rolled several times before coming to a standstill in a ditch just before the Ballito offramp.
Mashaba was travelling with two bodyguards and all three occupants were ejected from the vehicle.
“The bodyguards were in a critical condition and treated by advanced life support paramedics before being transported to hospital,” said Herbst.
“Unfortunately deputy mayor was declared dead on scene.”
Mashaba is also the ANC regional chairperson for the Musa Dladla region.
KZN provincial spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that the accident took place around 10pm and that police are investigating.
