Township residents drive drug dealers out
Residents believe drugs are causing all the problems in their area.
The community of Etete Velani township took a stand against drugs in their area on Saturday night, demanding that known drug dealers should leave the township.
They believe that most of the crime committed in the township is a result of drug addiction. The latest incident is the murder and rape of the five-year-old Velile Mgomezulu who was kidnapped while sleeping with other children on the night of July 4.
Community policing forum chairperson of Velani township, Bongumusa Mkhize said currently only two men have left the township and there are other drug dealers that the community is aware off and will be dealt with soon.
Speaking with the community Mkhize said the two men who are accused of being drug dealers admitted that they used to sell drugs but are no longer dealing drugs.
“Residents said they do not care whether the accused is a drug dealer or used to be a drug dealer. They did not want to search for drugs, however they were there to inform them that they are no longer welcome in Etete and requested them to leave on that same night,” said Mkhize.
