Woman who allegedly kidnapped baby in Stanger, found in Johannesburg.
Different departments from KwaDukuza SAPS worked together with the Johannesburg metro police this week in the arrest of a 32-year-old woman who allegedly kidnapped a baby in Stanger.
On Wednesday, July 8 the baby’s mother was at a supermarket when the suspect approached her and promised to buy the baby clothes after she requested to hold the child.
The suspect disappeared with the three-week-old boy and was nowhere to be found.
A case of kidnapping was opened at KwaDukuza police station for investigation.
The KwaDukuza family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit, KwaDukuza crime intelligence, national crime intelligence and Johannesburg metro police received information that led the members to Johannesburg where the suspect was hiding in a flat in the Johannesburg CBD.
The suspect was found with the baby and she was arrested.
The baby was in a healthy condition and was taken to hospital for a medical checkup and will be re-united with his family.
The suspect is expected to appear at the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court today.
