This week is known as Carpool Week, shining the light on the important role catching a lift with friends or colleagues can play in people’s lives.
This year the theme is Carpool Karaoke to promote the social side of carpooling and to share personal stories from real carpoolers.
Founder of FindaLift, Daniel Claasen, said with the fuel price up by 60% and 22% more cars on the roads since 2010, more people are considering carpools.
“Given the fact that 33% of all work trips are done by private vehicle, carpooling can play an important role in fostering behavioral change, reducing our carbon-footprint, saving money and relieving traffic congestion,” said Claasen.
The social benefits of carpooling can have an incredible impact on people’s lives.
They can play counsellor, coach, dietitian and parent adviser in their lift club.
Other go from being just colleagues to becoming good friends.
Carpooling one day a week when it suits you, can save you 10% on your fuel bill and emissions while possibly making a friend for life.
