WATCH: Whale carcass and sharks at Umdloti

A paddler came across the carcass that washed into the nets.

Last week a badly decomposed whale carcass washed into the shark nets at Umdloti.

A tiger shark was also caught in the nets, but was safely released when the KZN Sharks Board arrived to tow away the carcass.

Durban North resident, Carl Schloms, came across the whale and sharks while paddling on his surfski and managed to get some fantastic footage with a GoPro.

“It clearly washed into the nets when it was already dead because you can see it was quite old,” said Schloms.

“There were quite a few sharks around, but they weren’t interested in me at all!”
