UPDATE: Infant killed in mother’s arms in Tongaat

A woman, a teenage girl and an infant were all killed while crossing the road in Tongaat this morning.

In a tragic turn of events an infant was found to have died in its mother’s arms when she and a 15-year-old girl, thought to be her daughter, were run over by a truck in central Tongaat this morning.

Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue said the discovery of the infant was only made when the mortuary van arrived to collect the bodies.

“The bodies were badly damaged on impact and declared dead on the arrival of the paramedics so they were not immediately moved.

“The baby unfortunately also suffered extensive injuries and is believed to have died on impact,” said Herbst.
