Arresting poverty for Christmas

The public saw the kind arm of the law.

Our local law enforcement wore their hearts on their sleeves instead of their badges this week  when they surprised poor families with Christmas presents, clothes and toys on Wednesday and Thursday.

The excitiment and appreciation from those on the receiving end was priceless.

Umhlali Police station spokesperson warrant officer Vinny Pillay said the officers have been collecting Christmas gifts from the community for the past five years.

“Thank you to everyone who donated clothes and special thank you goes to Claudia Moodley from Zimbali who bought the toys,” said Pillay.

One of the elderly women Nomthiya Mzaza prayed a blessing over the police in appreciation.

“God bless you my children and I pray that God will keep you safe on all the dangerous places you go to.

“I am short of words to express my appreciation, what you have done to us has brought a spark of hapiness in my family for this Chritsmas,” said Nomthiya.

Some people said they were relieved to no longer worry about Christmas clothes for their children.
