Lighting Ballito blue

In light of world autism day last Saturday, Connect Special Needs Forum and Imbalito Hope College set out to spread awareness on autism in Ballito and Durban

With cupcakes in hand, volunteers dressed in blue as part of the international “light it up blue” campaign for autism awareness, took to walking around the Ballito Lifestyle Centre working together with the community to raise money.

Connect Special Needs is a forum of professionals and parents who learn and work together in special needs and autism.

In addition to the fund-raising in Balllito, a community autism awareness walk was hosted at the People’s Park at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Professionals, families, friends and the public came together in hundreds to advocate for the plight of autism and show their support for autism awareness.

After the walk, a delightful picnic in the park was held and the day ended with a fashion show with models dressed in blue by Simply Models.

Nirasha Dhaniram, a psychologist, mother of a son with autism and the director of Connect Special Needs and Autism and Imbalito Hope College, shared a message of hope for those with autism and said we must stand together to bring our children quality education, quality treatment/healthcare and quality living.
