Raw sewage on the road at Windy Heights

"Every time I call the call centre, they promise to send someone, but it has never happened," said Losper.

Residents of Essenwood Street in Windy Heights, KwaDukuza, have a seriously stinky problem: a sewerage pipe that serves the road is blocked and raw sewage is spilling into the road.

Resident Brandon Losper said they have reported the problem to the Ilembe District Municipality for months, but their complaints fall onto deaf ears.

“Every time I call the call centre, they promise to send someone, but it has never happened,” said Losper.

Due to the blocked pipe that has not been fixed for months, residents are forced to tolerate the smell.

He said the smell of sewage was unbearable and was a health hazard.

“They once sent a team with a high-pressure system to spray into the manhole to clear out the blockage. This was not the solution but they have done nothing further,” said Losper.

Ilembe had not responded by the time of going to print.
