Jingle bowls campaign for SPCA

Despite being no stranger to the cold shoulder of some pet owners who are said to simply 'abandon' their pets at home while going off on a holiday, Tanya says that their hearts still break for the animals left behind, waiting for their owner's return daily.

One hundred kilograms of dog and cat food is what the Durban and Coast SPCA goes through every day during the festive season, but they say it will all be worth it if it means bringing comfort to an animal separated from its owner. With the festive season comes fireworks which often see animals stray far from home.

“This means one thing, hundreds more mouths to feed,” said Durban and Coast SPCA marketing manager Tanya Fleischer, who is calling on the public to open their hearts and consider donating food for the animals.

“We hear the merry jingle of 100kgs of dog and cat pellets being poured into food bowls every single day and, with your help, we can keep this ‘jingling’ going through the holidays – this is about more than keeping animals fed, it’s about restoring their trust in humanity.”

“Our inspectors will be on duty around the clock to rescue abandoned and ill-treated animals like this. But when they bring that little dog or frightened cat back to the safety of our SPCA, we need to be able to feed them,” said Tanya.

Anyone interested in donating to the SPCA is urged to drop off food at the SPCA Charity Shop at 2 Jack Powell Road, Ballito, or at their main Durban and Coast SPCA premises. Alternatively, online donations can also be made by visiting www.spcadbn.org.za.
