Young man drowns near Salt Rock beach
It is reported that the man and his sister had been swimming at an unprotected beach immediately north of the Salt Rock hotel.
The body of a 20-year-old man has been recovered after an extensive search by emergency rescue personnel at Salt Rock today (Thursday).
An intense search operation was conducted with the hope of rescuing the man who had been bathing with his 16-year-old sister, however his body was found some 30 minutes after he was reported missing.
It is reported that the man and his sister had been swimming at an unprotected beach immediately north of the Salt Rock hotel.
“Paramedics and crews attempted to resuscitate the man however efforts were unsuccessful,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Paul Herbst.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released once his family has been notified.
Emergency services have sent out an appeal that beachgoers only bathe at protected beaches where lifeguards are present.
