Seven die in Shakaskraal taxi crash

Numerous emergency rescue services as well as the SAPS search and rescue unit are currently at the scene and it is reported that air rescue services have also been called in to assist.

Seven people have been confirmed dead after the taxi they were travelling in along the R102 at Shakaskraal crashed down an embankment this morning (Friday).

“Police search and rescue units are assisting with the extrication of entrapped patients,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Paul Herbst.

According to Herbst, one victim of the accident was found under the taxi and a number of people are being treated for various injuries.

Motorists are advised to expect delays along the R102 at Shakaskraal.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
