The wheels of the bus go round and round

Driving around the country and attending to the needs of national cricket teams and the demands of local soccer teams is all in a day's work for the kind bus driver.

From the hardcore world of big-rig trucking to driving luxury buses, 61-year-old Glenhills resident Kishore Rampersad spends his days ferrying national sports teams from venue to venue.

The South African national men’s hockey team were driven during their tour here in Ballito against the USA by the youthful looking gentleman, who pilots the monolithic tour bus with ease around tight corners and busy traffic intersections.

“I worked for Unitrans for 26 years as a truck driver, but since 2011, I have been behind the wheel of luxury tour buses,” said Rampersad.

“It can be a bit dangerous. Sometimes we face situations on the road with other vehicles and in certain areas because of different people and cultures, so we just have to be patient.”

Stress can be a factor, but according to Rampersad things get easier with time and experience.

“I do love what I do and our customers always come first, despite the challenges.”
