No rest for the Christmas Fair Fund

Thanks to the input of the North Coast community and their willing hands, the Christmas Fair Fund has donated back and assisted several underprivileged people in need of a little help.

The Siyakuhla school in Groutville has benefited greatly as a result of the Fund and its dedicated members, with over 20 years of backing, building the ablution blocks and monitoring regular financial contributions in order to keep the school running.

Gaby Lyle, a Ballito resident and member of the Fund for 40 years, is the chairperson making sure that every cent is put to good use and is not wasted.

“If the school needs repainting or repairs, and especially food, uniforms or books, we are there to help,” said Lyle.

For nearly 70 years, starting with a small community of North Coast farmer’s wives, the Fund has raised considerable amounts to assist with the development of small initiatives, but focuses on those showing promise, creating a unified force in the community.

With a firm hand on the tiller, Lyle asserts that that Fund helps people who help themselves.

“There are people within the communities who do a lot of work to assist others, and we step in to give them a helping hand.”

Besides helping the school facilities, the Fund also trains the teachers by assisting with courses towards better education skills, filling in the gaps where municipal efforts have dwindled. The

Christmas Fair Fund also provides a sizeable annual donation for The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.

The Fund, a charitable and non-profit organisation, would like to thank their supporters and members for keeping each and every child fed, taught and looked after at Siyakuhle as well as Mbekemuzi school.
