Netcare Alberlito quarantines some staff after two test positive for Covid-19

Staff confirmed to have been in contact with the two positive cases were placed in self-isolation and are being monitored.

Two Netcare Alberlito staff tested positive for the coronavirus – one on Friday last week and the other last Tuesday.

Hospital general manager, Thulasizwe Mngadi said hospital management took immediate action when they learnt of the first asymptomatic case.

He said screening had taken place when the employee arrived at work however, a fever developed later in the day and when tested again, the result was positive.

Both cases have been isolated and tracking and tracing began immediately.

Staff confirmed to have been in contact with the two positive cases were placed in self-isolation and are being monitored.

Hospital management did not disclose the number of staff in self-isolation.

“These staff members are also asymptomatic.

“Netcare has provided accommodation at no cost for some of the staff members who are not able to self-isolate safely at home.

“All those in self-isolation are being tested, and will only return to work after the quarantine period and if they are Covid-19 negative,” said Mngadi.

Test results received to date have come back negative.

The hospital has since been deep cleaned and remains fully operational.
